Basically, Karlee played by far better than anyone else, and it was deserved that he got this first place (also, the players here are pretty casual, and brought much softer rosters than Karlee [except the Latvian daemon player]).
My special word of praise goes to Kamil (Inferno) - I had the most enjoyable battle of the tournament against him; he managed to win by around 200 points (which I consider a draw), and the battle itself was really very close, and in every turn there were either some surprises or some sneaky manoeuvres; really, this was a very cool game.
Tactica Improvisada II - WHFB Tournament in Tallinn
Hi everyone!
The tournament and (especially!) the trip itself went just terrific!! We had a really great time during this weekend, and I will not lie if I say that this was the best Warhammer weekend ever! What happened during the whole trip was indescribable, so I’ll just try to describe my battles:
My army, The Druchii Anal Invaders:
Sorceress, 2nd lev, Tome of Furion, DS
Sorceress, 2nd lev, Darkstar Cloak, DS
Sorceress, 2nd lev, Sacrificial Dagger, Pearl of Infinite Darkness
ASSasin, A. H. Weapon, Cloak, +D3 attacks, Killing Blow
10 X-bow, shields, musician
5 DR, X-bow, musician
13 Warriors, musician
4x5 Harpies
2x8 Shades
14 BG, Champion with Crimson Death, ASF Standard
2 Bolt Throwers
1st battle – Martin, HE
Hero on foot
BSB on horse (with Battle Banner I suppose)
2lev Mage with Seerstaff and Scroll
5 Shit Helms, FCG
10 Shit Helms, FCG
20 Spearelves,
15 Spearelves,
20 Phoenix Guards
Lion Chariot
2 Bolt throwers
I think that’s it
On the table we had an obelisk which gave the person who controlled it hatred, but since my druchii were already hating his gay elves, then it didn’t really matter for me ;p He deployed rather not to good, with his infantry on my left and in the centre, and chariot with cavalry on far right. I deployed only a RBT and DR unit on the right, just to cut his march with DR, and to shoot his cavalry on the side when they will be moving to the centre
Since he had only one mage with one scroll, and I had a lot of shooting and magic, I shot his whole army to bits, one unit by one, and killed the phoenix guards in hth with my BG, and bolt thrower was killed with a flying assasin. I lost only half of my BG unit in hth with phoenix guards. And cleansed the table, so a massacre...
2nd battle – Vilu, Beastmen
Fighting general
BSB in ambush
Caddy
4x hounds
4xherds I suppose
2xchariots
2xspawns
2x4 Minotaur with G. Weapons
15 Bestigors
5 Centigors
I was very pleased to play against beastmen, because I havn’t played against them in a while… And I must say, that this army is really out of it’s time right now in the times of armies immune to psychology, with powerful magic and cool items and units who cause fear and terror. They are simply too weak to pose any threat. My plan was to march-block them, shoot em up, and magic them up (since Vilu had only one caddy!). I wanted to kill the dogs with my harpies, and do not let them close into my unit with the sorceresses, and should that happen I could always move them to the unit of BG with ASF. But that didn’t occur. Needless to say – it was fairly easy to shoot those beastmen up, because they all had low leadership and quite soft units, so I caused several panics per turn, and what I didn’t shoot – fled. The most successful situation in the game was when on my second turn I charged warhounds with a unit of 5 harpies, behind whom stood a unit of gors with the general. The dogs fled, and caused panic in the unit with the general, which also fled, and was caught by charging harpis, thus making ambushing me on his second turn impossible and scoring in total approx. 800 points
On turn 4 I guess there were nothing to fight with, and the only unit that survived were 2 centigors hiding in the wood…
3rd battle – Siergiei, Daemons
2xHerald of Tzeentch with the knowledge of one whole lore
BSB of Nurgle on the palaquin of Nurgle, with a standard that gave all stubborn to all daemons within 12”, some gift that made every unit in base-to-base lose ASF and made them strike last, and some shit that hit every enemy in base-to-base
2x10 Horrors
17 Horrors
14 Plaguebearers
2x5 Furies
2x5 Flesh Hounds
3 Flamers
This army was a really bitchy one. It had 8 Dispell dices, 11 Power Dices, some flamers, furies, and stubborn. In order to defeat them, I had to: reduce their number of dispel dices, kill furies, then proceed to the hounds, witch I couldn’t destroy with my spells since they have MR(3), and leave the big nurgle unit alone, because there were simply no way for me to kill them. I deployed my whole army 2.5 inch away, so that in his first turn he wouldn’t have the range for his spells. Siergiei got first turn, moved forward with everything, and left only the nurgle unit behind. In the magic phase he cast 2D6 hits from fire magic upon my BG, and killed 5 or 6 of them, and that was it.
In his turn he did 4 mistakes: one unit of furies moved about 6 inches by the table edge, so that my DR unit couldn’t charge them, and that they could charge my RBT which was standing by the table edge, but they were so close to the edge that on my next turn I was able to move my DR very close to them while touching the table edge which blocked their LoS to my RBT. Next unit of furies was about 10 inches away from my shades, in which assasin was hidden, and thus I revealed him and charged along with a unit of harpies his furies, in a such direction that I could overrun into flamers or horrors with a mage
I blocked two units of hounds with my harpies, magiced and shot five horrors from one unit, and managed to inflict 5 wounds on the flamers. During hth I killed furies, and overrun, but I rolled low and didn’t go far enough to catch flamers or horrors, so my assasin and harpies vere standing right in front of his flamer and a lot of mages and horrors – not a good perspective :/
On his second turn he charged one unit of harpies which was blocking the hounds with his furies (I fled, and they just landed in front of my BG!), and other unit was charged with hounds, I also fled, the doggies cough my harpies, but were exposed for a flank attack for my shades. Siergiei did another mistake, and charged my harpies with his last flamer, instead of trying to shoot my assasin down. They fled of course, and left the flamer in front of my killer. Now all I had to do is to block every magic missile targeted at my assasin, which I managed to do.
My second turn was decisive, my BG charged furies who were standing in front of warhounds, killed them and overrun into flank of the doggies, second unit of doggies were charged by my shades in the side, and the rest of my army shot and hurled magic missiles at his horrors. Later on I killed rest of the horrors and one mage, and the only unit left were plaguebearers, at which I shot and hurled magic missiles for two turns and killed only 5 or 6.
All in all I on by a 1000 points or smth.
4th battle – Eduard, WoCh
Tzerntch Sorcerer, disc, ward 3+, Scream, Book of Secrets
Tzeentch Sorcerer, chariot, enchanced shield, ward 4+, smth else?
Tzeentch Sorcerer, warhorse, infernal puppet, collar of khorne?
2x10 Maruders of Khorne, Flails
15 warriors of Slaanesh, Shields, Halberds, FCG, Warbanner
3x5 Hounds
2x5 Knights of khorne
Hellcannon
At first this army didn’t seem so tough, also the scenario favored me, because we got to move D3 units of the opponent to the table edge, and I moved his knights back, which gave me another turn of shooting at them. I rolled for metal and fire magic, and got one or two forges. But since he had infernal puppet, and I rolled smth like 5 or 6 miscasts, one of my sorceress killed herself, and the other two got a wound.
He had two mages outside of his units, so the first priority was to shoot them down. On the turn no. one I managed to shoot a chariot and inflict one wound upon the mage, and kill some doggies. But he shoot down one of my shades with an assasin inside almost completely. On turn two I shot the mage, and charged 5 warhounds who were standing in front of my unit with sorceresses with my 5 harpies, and guess what? harpies killed one dog, and they killed 4 harpies back, who fled and warhounds overrun into my unit with mages. At that moment it was a really shitty for me. On the centre of the table my unit of BG and assasin charged his warriors with a mage inside, and sadly didn’t manage to win the combat... In his turn doggies killed one sorcerres, and wounded another (sic!). Now the battle looked like shit to me... His maruders charged in to the fight with the BG, and due to my asf I managed to kill two of them, the assasin finaly disposed of the second tzeentch mage, and rest of the BG mage some kills, but it wasn’t enough, and chaos scum stood still. On my turn I shoot down one wound on the disc sorcerer, advanced with my shades onto his maruder unit. Wounded sorceress killed herself with a miscast, and the other one inflicted a wound on herself... He cast magic missile and wiped 6 shades (7 S7 hits
). At that point knight were very close to my unit of warriors with a mage inside, but I was able to redirect them with harpies
At this point there was a big battle on the centre of the table, involving 2 units of maruders, warriors, BG and assasing. Of course it was something close to a draw. Next turn I charged one unit of maruders with my DR and last 2 shades at the back (anal invasion!) and other 2 shades in the side, which resulted in a total massacre of maruder unit, and winning the combat finally. On the other flank khorne knights were chasing after harpies, and got a whole load of shots from RBT, X-bows and one succesfull spirit of the forge. I simply wiped them out. Also finally I shot down the disc sorcerer. The only unit that was left, was Hellcannon, who broke its chains, and charged 17” at my BG in the flank. I killed the beast after 3 rounds of hth, and cleansed the table. That’s all, I won also more than 1000, but can’t remember the exact points difference. I lost 2 sorcerreses, warriors, 2 units of harpies, 14 shades, and half of BG. I have to say, that Eduard was certainly the best player I met during the tournament, and should he practice a little bit more, then he could be a really top player!
5th battle – Waren, WE
Alter Noble, Great Weapon, Hail, Helm of the hunt
Caddy
6x8 Dryads
3x10 Archers
2x8 Wardancers
10 Waywatchers
5 Glade riders on horses
6 WR with warbanner
The table was a really unfair one, especially to play against WE. It had a big river crossing the table, and only two usable bridges (third was so small that no normal unit would fit), if that wouldn’t be enough, it also had 3 forests, which witch extra WE forest gave 4 forests (sic!). But I had a sound plan, which worked pretty well: try to hit his flanks with shades and harpies since they ignore the water, and hold the centre of the table hurling missiles and bolts at incoming onslaught, having my BG unit in reserve, and slowing their march with my harpies... I put a unit of shades in one of the forests close to the WE army, with an assasin inside without revealing him, and flew two of my harpy units behind the forest, so that he could not shoot them down. Waren marched with one unit of dryads, glade riders and wild riders onto my assasin/shade trap. On my turn no. two I charged dryads with shades and assasin, and overrun into WR, two units of harpies charged the glade riders. The left flank was mine! On the other flank his whole army was advancing, and time after time got a few magic missiles and bolts into the face. When they were close enough then my BG charged dryads, overrun into wardancers, killed them all, and the rest of his army were shot to bits, and hidden in the woods. I lost one RBT, DR, 3x5harpies, x-bowmen, and 7 shades. I won also by around 1000points I suppose.
To comment on the tourney rules: I also liked the knowledge test, but I can't believe that I scored zero points for painting my army. Also the rules for counting victory points were a bit too complicated, and I never knew how big I won. I prefer good old 0-20 system.
I’d like to thank all players with whom I played with. All games were very pleasant and friendly. Thanks again for inviting and hosting us, and I hope that in December we get to host you in Białystok
Cheers!

Karlee, about painting: you had several unpainted harpies, as far as I remember, and I guess that it's the reason why you scored 0...
About Eduard - he is actually fairly new, and already very strong. The only thing he currently lacks is experience against certain opponents (Estonia is small, so there are some armies that we never get to play against...)
