Bataliony, cena, punkty, zawartość.

Znalazłem na Beasts of War, po chamsku skopiowałem, trochę przetłumaczyłem....

Zawartość Batalionów, ich wartość punktowa i cena w funtach. Pierwsza wartość punktowa jest bazowa, za gołe jednostki. Druga jest z potencjalnymi abgrejdami. Niewielkie konwersje jak demoniczni Heraldzi zrobieni ze zwykłych demonów albo Empire Knights jako Inner Circle czy Warriorzy Chaos jako Forsakeni.
Są wszystkie armie posiadające Batalion (czyli nie ma Chaos Dwarfów i Dogs of War :roll: ) oprócz nadchodzących Ogrów. Nowego AB Ogrów jeszcze nie ma, więc nie podliczę zawartości.

edit: ceny podaję w funtach bo w różnych polskich sklepach są różne ceny. Funty są bardziej uniwersalne.

Batalion do demonów, poza tym, że ma prawie najwięcej punktów to ma jedne z bardziej grywalnych jednostek. Tylko kupować. :)

Battalions

Total points calculated by taking most expensive weapon options (spears, additional hand weapons), equipment upgrades (shields, armor), and command models (champion, standard bearer, and musicians).

Beastmen ($90 US) : 20 gors, 10 bestigors, 10 ungors
Total points : 410 (Ungor + spears, Gors + AHW)
Cost if bought individually : $115.50 (Total savings = 115.50 - 90 = $25.50)
Pros : All the units provided are good in 8th edition Beastmen armies and Bestigors went from one of the worst units in 7th to the best Beastmen unit in 8th (in my opinion of course). Also, with being the newest released battalion/army, the models are quite good and there is no fear of them being replaced anytime soon.
Cons : Too few in number, too low points wise, and cost effectivness is lowest among all battalions. Beastmen in particular tend to be a fragile close combat army that dies in droves while dealing punishment. The numbers provided are just way too few and a player may need 3 or more battalions to form decent sized units of ungors and bestigors (while also getting 2 units of 30 gors). Further, the total savings for the battalion are among the lowest.
Building Block : I'm not a fan of the Beastmen battalion primarily due to the cost, however, if money is no object (ha!) than the Beastmen battalion is the best way to build a Beastmen army for 8th edition. However, Beastmen are among the most expensive armies to start in 8th as they require a pretty large amount of models that are not cheaply available. Unfortunately, this makes the Beastmen battalions among the worst battalions that one could buy points per dollar. Hopefully this is not a trend with future battalions.
Rating : 3/10

Bretonia ($90 US) : 20 Men-at-Arms, 16 Peasant Bowmen, 8 Knights of the Realm, 1 Pegasus Knights
Total points : 535 (Bowmen + light armor and brazier)
Cost if bought individually : $128.76 (Since 16 M@A in a box, additional 2.19 x 4 M@A = 8.76) : (Total Savings = 128.76 - 90 = $38.76)
Pros : 8th edition really improved the value of the Bretonnia battalion box, as men-at-arms and peasant bowmen are now staples of the army that use to be pretty much nothing but cavalry in 7th. The unit of 8 KoTR are still quite powerful, contrary to the opinions of those who think cavalry are worthless in 8th edition.
Cons : The primary negative is the lack of additional pegasus knights, but they tend to be cheap enough that buying an additional couple should not set the player back too much financially.
Building Block : The Bretonia battalion is a good building block that works well with an additional battalion purchase, which provides a solid core of infantry, knights, and bowmen.
Rating : 8.5/10

Dark Elves ($90 US) : 12 Spear Warriors, 16 RxB, 20 Corsairs, 5 Cold One Knights
Total points : 698 (Corsair champ with additional handbow, RxB + shields, Warriors + shields)
Cost if bought individually : $144.25 (-4 RxB @ 2.19 per = -8.76 = $135.49 : (Total Savings : $135.49 - 90 = $45.49)
Pros : The DE battalion is among the most cost effective battalions and has a considerable savings. The DE battalion provides a good mix of units, the warriors/rxb are interchangeable so it is up to the player on how to make them. Corsairs are still debateable as to their use in an army list, however, they are among some of the best plastic models made by GW (so at least a unit is nice to have!). The CoK are similar as they are pretty good looking models, but gamewise, not many people like using them. Having at least a unit of 5 though is preferable in the uncommon cases where you may want to field them. Finally, the points cost is pretty high in comparison to other battalions.
Cons : The selection of units, unfortunately, brings down the overall value of the battalion. If a player is planning to build around Corsairs and Cold One Knights, than this may be the best value battalion ever for them, but those players are few and far between. This isn't to claim that Corsairs and CoKs are horrible units, truth be told, they are actually pretty decent, it is just that there are better options available in comparison. It is still worthwhile to grab at least one battalion if planning to build a Dark Elf army.
Building Block : The DE battalion is a decent building block, but multiple battalions may not be the best option unless a person plans to use Corsairs and CoKs in most army lists. Otherwise, a player might be better off just building around the battalion with other box sets.

Dwarfs ($90 US) : 32 Warriors/Longbeards, 16 Thunderers/Quarrelers, 1 Cannon/Organ Gun
Total points : 835 (16 warriors with shields + greatweapons, 16 longbeards with shields + greatweapons, 16 thunderers + shields, 1 organ gun)
Cost if bought individually : $127.50 (Total Savings : 127.50 - 90 = $37.50)
Pros : One of the most underestimated battalion boxes (must be stunty bias of course) as it provides multiple options for each unit and can split its units in any number of ways. Further, it also provides a high point amount if split a certain way. While Battle for Skull Pass for O&G is almost a no-brainer, I would not suggest it for Dwarfs. First, the monopose models are quite horrid in comparison to the box set, the warriors are equipped with hw/s which tends to not perform as well as great weapon warriors in 8th. Finally, the cannon looks like a peashooter compared to the proper cannon/organ gun (in my opinion of course). However, one advantage of BFSP is getting a lot of cheap plastic miners. Unfortunately, due to the discontinue of BFSP, it may be difficult to find these miners individually nowadays.
Cons : The only negative is the lack of a special unit, this should hopefully be addressed whenever the new Dwarf book is released in 8th edition. Hopefully GW keeps this battalion box mostly intact and just adds say 10 plastic hammerers or ironbreakers, it would automatically make the Dwarf battalion comparable to the Ogre Kingdom one (wishlisting, I know).
Building Block : The dwarf battalion provides one of the better building blocks among the battalions available as all the units are usable and multiple battalions are suggested. Blocks of warriors, longbeards, thunderers, quarrelers, with a cannon or two and an organ gun form the basis of most Dwarf armies.
Rating : 9/10

High Elves ($100 US) : 20 Spearmen, 20 Archers, 1 Chariot, 1 Bolt Thrower
Total points : 655
Cost if bought individually : (+8.76 for 4 archers, +8.76 for 4 spearmen since boxes of 16) = $135.02 : (Total Savings : 135.02 - 100 = $35.02)
Pros : The newest rendition of the High Elf battalion replaces the oft criticized Silver Helms with a chariot and adds 8 more Elves (4 for spearmen, 4 for archers). This battalion is actually pretty good for what you get and can pretty much fulfill the core requirements necessary for 8th. The chariot is a vastly better option than the Silver Helms provided in the previous battalion.
Cons : There is debate on the usefulness of the units provided in this battalion, as spearmen/archers are constantly compared to lothern sea guard for the core troop requirement. Usually players will select one or the other to focus on, not both. Further, the bolt thrower has lost most of its strengths and with only 2 crew (2 wounds), it is a liability in most lists.
Building Block : The strength of the High Elf army is its special units, yet none are in the battalion. One battalion pretty much covers all the core a High Elf player is required to take. While others may say Island of Blood is a good addition, personally, I feel it gives the High Elf player too many core units, a pretty worthless griffon compared to a dragon, and units that need to be added upon anyways (LSG and Swordmasters). I would NOT advise combining Island of Blood with the Battalion, I feel the new player should decide if they want LSG core (buy IoB) or Archer/Spearmen core (buy battalion), both leads to a mish-mash of conflicting units.
Rating : 7.5/10

Lizardmen ($90 US) : 20 Saurus, 12 Skinks, 10 Temple Guard, 8 Cold One Riders
Total points : 877 (Saurus + spears, Skinks +skirmishers +javelin/shield,
Cost if bought individually : (+8.76 for 4 saurus, -17.50 for 12 skinks) = $129.26 : (Total Savings : 129.26 - 90 = $39.26)
Pros : Among the highest points per dollar battalions and provides several units that will be included in most common Lizardmen lists. The saurus provide a good starter block to build upon, while the skinks can be built up on the discretion of the player as either skirmisher horde or rank and file horde. The Temple Guard are pretty much necessary in 8th as most players will take a Slaan, another TG box to make a unit of 20 is probably the standard for most players.
Cons : The only negative in this battalion are the Cold One Riders. They aren't the worst unit in 8th edition, but most every other special selection is better than them. Most people will field the 8 found in the battalion just for fun or just because they have the models.
Building Block : While the battalion is pretty good overall and is a good building block, it is not recommended that a person buy more than one battalion due to the cold one riders. A player, however, will definitely need more Saurus, Skinks, and Temple Guards among other choices.

Ogre Kingdoms ($90 US) : 6 Ogre Bulls, 4 Leadbelchers, 4 Ironguts, 24 Gnoblars
Total points : 840 (Bulls with ironfists + light armor)
Cost if bought individually : $150 (Total Savings : 150 - 90 = $60.00)
Pros : Among the best (if not THE best) battalions ever made by GW. Everything inside is usable and provides a huge chunk of points if made as is. However, the true wealth of this battalion is found in the conversion opportunities provided, which means many clever converters have been able to get over 1,000 points out of a single battalion box. In 8th, 6 bulls seems to be the perfect number per unit. 2 leadbelchers could be converted into lord/hero models, and the remaining 2 leadbelchers can be fielded as is or converted into 2 additional Ironguts to bring that unit up to 6 as well.
Cons : There are pretty much no cons with this battalion set, many players have a Ogre army due to this battalion and its cost-effectiveness.
Building Block : As noted above, there is so much potential with one box, adding another box provides almost everything necessary for a 2k army, among the best buys available by GW.
Rating : 10/10

Orcs and Goblins ($90 US) : 20 Orcs, 20 Night Goblins, 10 Forest Goblin Spider Riders, 1 Boar Chariot
Total points : 555 (Orcs with additional choppa, Night Goblins with spears + nets, Spider Riders with bows)
Cost if bought individually : (-0.55 for 1 Orc, 19 in box) = $124.45 : (Total Savings : 124.45 - 90 = $34.45)
Pros : The units inside are all commonly found in most O&G armies (sans spider riders) and make good starting points for building upon in 8th edition, however, one would probably not want to field units of just 20.
Cons : Battle for Skull Pass made this starter set look like a bad option as it provided even more night goblins and the forest spider riders. It is still adviseable that new O&G players try to pick up the Goblin half of BFSP. Currently, the battalion tends to be rated as being decent as a building block with 8th edition in mind, the only unit that may not see much use are the spider riders.
Building Block : With recent rumors of a new armybook at the start of 2011, it is not advised to buy the battalion as there is no telling what the new battalion may include which may make it a much better value in a few months. Only buy if you like all the units available and won't be upset if certain units within are possibly remade in 8th.
Rating : 5/10

Skaven ($105 US) : 40 Clanrats, 20 Plague Monks, 2 Rat Ogres, 3 Packmasters, 6 Giant Rats
Total points : 507
Cost if bought individually : $141 (Total Savings : 141 - 105 = $36.00)
Pros : The 40 clanrats provide a nice block of required core infantry for 8th. The 20 plague monks are also useful to build upon, especially if one expects to use a Plague Furnace in the future. The points cost may be considered a negative, but is quite decent for a horde-based army.
Cons : The Rat Ogres are not as popular in lists, but time will tell if they are taken more often as most gamers have reported good things with using them. Personally, I think a lot of disgust aimed towards Rat Ogres has more to do with the models than actual playability in 8th. The Giant Rats are also pretty mediocre as the good old Dart tactic has disappeared, so one may not use them in lists (although their point cost is pretty much negligible)
Building Block : Additional battalions can provide use as building up a larger block of plague monks and clan rats, which can also be used as slaves. However, combined with a Island of Blood starter set or two, it really shines and becomes one of the better battalions, kudos to GW as they seemed to design Island of Blood with the Battalion in mind.
Rating : 9/10

The Empire ($105 US) : 20 State Troops, 10 Handgunners, 10 Greatswords, 8 Knights
Total points : 659 (Swordsmen as state troops)
Cost if bought individually : $150.50 (Total Savings : 150.50 - 105 = $45.50)
Pros : Among the best battalion buys for points per dollar. An Empire player will probably use every single unit available in the battalion in some capacity, it tends to be a good building block battalion for expanding upon. The points cost is also pretty decent. The 8 Knights are a nice solid unit of core cavalry that provides a strong punch still in 8th (can also be upgraded to inner circle knights, but not many will do that since most other Empire special units are quite good in comparison).
Cons : A single battalion will not be of much use to an Empire player as a block of 20 State Troopers is much too small in 8th. 10 Handgunners is a decent detachment, suicide as a parent unit, ditto with Greatswords (cept the detachment part of course).
Building Block : An additional battalion is almost necessary to expand the units provided, cept the Knights (but 2 units of 8 are perfectly viable). 40 State Troops seems to be the minimum for a parent unit, 20 handgunners provides a decent parent unit or can be split and used as detachments. 20 Greatswords would seemingly be the minimum to run a unit of Greatswords in 8th.
Rating : 8.5/10

Tomb Kings ($90 US) : 3 Chariots, 32 Skeletons, 8 Horsemen
Total points : 646
Cost if bought individually : $140 (Total Savings : 140 - 90 = $50)
Pros : The points per dollar would make one think that this was among the best buys GW offered. However, many of the units are pretty poor in 8th edition and may see little use. The only "good" thing is that it fulfills the core requirements for a TK army, but all of the core tends to be flawed in 8th.
Cons : The points cost is deceiving, as the use of chariots is debateable in 8th due to their fragile nature against infantry blocks. The Skeleton Warriors also tend to be severely overcost for what they do in game, due to the built in fear mechanic. Also Skeleton Horsemen have been among the worst units for the past several editions and may be the absolute worst unit in 8th edition.
Building Block : Due to the contents and how they work in 8th, this battalion is not one that is highly recommended. Combined with the apparent new army book on the horizon, it is suggested that players avoid this battalion. However, if you are fine with the models as is and the way they work in 8th so far, it still remains a pretty good buy for the points per dollar ratio.
Rating : 5/10

Vampire Counts ($90 US) : 20 Skeleton Warriors, 10 Ghouls, 20 Zombies, 1 Corpse Cart
Total points : 480 (Corpse Cart with upgrade, Skeletons with spears)
Cost if bought individually : $134.25 (Total Savings : 134.25 - 90 = $44.25)
Pros : Provides units that are pretty much necessary in a VC army in some capacity due to raising spells. The Corpse Cart is among the better choices in the VC book.
Cons : All core choices, which means a future VC player will be purchasing quite a few specials and rares, but the kicker is the corpse cart not counting as minimum core, meaning the core requirement necessary in 8th requires even more core requirements by the VC player. Skeletons and Zombies also appear to be inferior to most players in 8th compared to Ghouls, as they tend to be overcost for what they do in game.
Building Block : This part is controversial, since there seems to be a divide in players who use skeletons/zombies and those who load up on nothing but ghouls/graveguard. If you are the former, the battalion is a great building block and would be the primary reason to buy multiple copies. However, if you are the latter, you would probably not find much worth in buying more than a single battalion or may not even want to buy a single one.
Rating : 6/10


Warriors of Chaos ($90 US) : 12 Chaos Warriors, 20 Marauders, 10 Warhounds, 5 Chaos Knights
Total points : 787 (Warriors with +1 point upgrade shield/ahw/halberd + mark, Knights with lances + mark, Marauders with light armor + flails + mark)
Cost if bought individually : (+8.76 for 4 marauders) = $128.26 : (Total Savings : 128.26 - 90 = $38.26)
Pros : All the units are viable, almost necessary in 8th edition. It is a fairly large amount of points compared to other battalions. Units of marauders, warriors, and knights are found in pretty much every list. The warhounds are kindof hit or miss, but most players will use them as cheap deployment options as WoC tend to lack a large number of units.
Cons : 12 Chaos Warriors, while being incredible, are too small to use as a unit. 18 seems to be the minimum used in 8th, especially for grinder warriors. Larger blocks are necessary for anvil warriors, which is nice if buying a second battalion.
Building Block : A solid battalion to build a WoC army around as all the units will be used. A second battalion provides a solid unit of marauders and knights, also as many hounds as one will probably ever need/use. The battalion pretty much forms the core units that will be found in almost every WoC army and is among the best for players.

Wood Elves ($90 US) : 8 Glade Riders, 24 Glade Guard, 12 Dryads
Total points : N/A (Honestly, I never realized this is the only army book I don't have, haha)
Cost if bought individually : (+17.52 for 8 glade guard) = $122.52 : (Total Savings : 122.52 - 90 = $32.52)
Pros : Glade Guard are among the best options for 8th edition with the current rulebook, 24 provides the ability to form one larger unit to build upon or to seperate as two smaller units which may be necessary as large blocks of Glade Guard are not exactly the most resilient units in close combat anyways. Dryads are still necessary as close combat units even with the 8th changes to skirmishers, 12 provides a good number for this role.
Cons : The 8 Glade Riders are utterly worthless as they are among the worst units in 8th being expensive, fragile, and lacking ability to cause wounds. It is also tough to build an army around just Glade Guard and Dryads. Further by buying (16) Glade Guard and (12) Dryads individually, the retail cost is $70. One has to determine if $20 is worth 8 additional Glade Guard and 8 useless Glade Riders.
Building Block : The battalion is a decent building block, but multiple battalions are not optimal.

plus nie ma wzmianek o dodatkowych gnoblarach z wyprasek, więc tak naprawdę zamiast 24 było 30+ z tego co pamiętam ;) podobnie jak giant raty u Skavenów.

Komuś w GW chyba zależy na tym żeby Deamons of Chaos było najbardziej przegiętą armią w grze. Nawet ich batalion jest najlepszy.

To ja może 2 słowa o NOWYM batalionie ogrów, którego jestem od dzisiaj szczęśliwym posiadaczem, potrzebowałem wzmocnić oddziały ale do rzeczy.

W opisie stoi, iż w batalionie dostajemy 6 bulli, 6 irongutów, 4 ledów, więc w porównaniu do poprzedniego odpada 24 gnoblary, wchodzi za to 2 ironów. Nieciekawie, ale tylko na 1 rzut oka, no ale teraz gnobblary są rzadko wystawiane a ironi zawsze, więc z punktu widzenia stołu - why not? (inna sprawa że mając 150-200 maluchów to taka zamiana była mi na rękę).

Tymczasem jak sobie obejrzałem dokładnie batalion okiem gracza, to wychodzi na to, iż dostałem:

- oddział 9 ironów (tak, tak, są 2x4 duże bronie + składamy sztandar i piękny unit gra)
- pozostałych 7 ogrów, z których możemy złożyć 4x leadblachers lub do 7 ogrów

- chyba że włożymy odrobinkę (naprawdę niedużo) wysiłku w konwersję i dla przykładu zrobimy sobie bsb, butchera (byle jaki fartuch z gs i pokropić krwią), jeśli z fantazją zrobimy dodatki lub od kolegi pożyczymy trochę bitzów innej armii, to nawet maneatersi wyjdą ciekawie, przynajmniej w grach towarzyskich mucha nie siądzie.

Czyli mam: butchera, bsb, 9x ironi, 5x maneatersi (są w batalionie 3 różne sztandary więc kolejny piękny zbieg okoliczności).

A co do gnoblarów. Po pierwsze, ostatnio w rozpiskach się nie pojawiają. Po drugie, to w ramkach jest dokładnie .....24 gnoblary. ok, jest to mały oddział klonów, ale też nie w pierwszych 2 szeregach - mamy w sumie (8xa, 8xb, 2xc, 2xd, 2xe, 1xf, 1xg) - tyle że podstawek brak (w starym batalionie było 48 gnoblarów na upartego).

liczba punktów goła bez przedmiotów( 2x bohater (pomijam celowo opcję z lordem magiem choć wielu właśnie jego użyje, ale tutaj na potrzeby realnego policzenia punktów), 9x ironi fcg, 5x maneatersi goli): 850 (plus ewentualne 60 za gnobblarów jeżeli ktoś się pokusi) plus punkty na wyposażenie maneatersów, jak dla mnie do 900 dojdzie spokojnie (plus again ew. 60 za maluchów). Ze sztandarami i magicznymi przedmiotami na bohaterach - ok. 1000.

Ale co najważniejsze, dokupując jedynie kotki z finecasta (50 zł) i ironblastera (85-90 zł) mamy całkowicie grywalną, wcale nie plewną rozpiskę na 1200-1300 ptk, zahaczającą lekko o aktualnie wypracowywane najbardziej przegięte rozpiski ogrów. A to wszystko za 350-400 zł i naprawdę odrobinkę pracy przy konwersjach.

Dla początkujących/oszczędnych - nic lepszego nie wyszło.

Ostateczna ocena batalionu - 11/10
