"When this Daemon suffers a wound, all enemy models in base contact must pass a Toughness test for each wound inflicted on the Daemon or themselves suffer a wound with no armour saves allowed."
Rulebook p 29 Armour Saves
"Roll D6 for each wound suffered by your troops. If you roll equal or greater than the model's armour save the wound has been deflected by it's armour."
p 96 Regeneration
it sends you to Ward save rules as reference ( "...exactly as 4+ ward save..."). Moreover it gives exceptions :
"Wounds suffered from flaming attacks cannot be regenerated ..."
p 30 Ward Saves
"No model can ever try to have more than one ward save against a wound it has suffered."
These three quotes clearly indicate that wounds are suffered before any kinds of saves are taken, and thus Daimyo interpretation is correct.
EDIT: well, actually the wording for the gift includes both words -'suffered' and 'inflicted' in the same sentence and in reference to exact same situation (but which one:P before (suffered) or after (inflicted) saves ?), so once again it's "what the poet had in mind" case, as the wording says both
