- Karl Franz is killed by the Glott bros. He's later revived after being "iluminated" by the twin-tailed comet and says "We're the empire". His transfiguration culminates with an energy blast wipes out every Chaos worshipper and Undead in Altdorf, leaving the city destroyed but still in humanity's hands. Last words of Karl Franz in the book are "the rule of death is broken; now, may everything change" [I'm reverse translating from spanish here so who knows what the book actually says]
- Louen Leoncoeur is killed by Festus. Before that, he slays Ku'Gath with some assistance from the priestess of Shallya. Louen appears quite bitter in this book: he understands Gilles le Breton has usurped his throne in Bretonnia, and despite accepting Gilles as king he's not satisfied with the change. After a vision by the Lady urging him to go to Sigmar's City - "your kingdom isn't here any longer, but it can be elsewhere", she says - Louen travels to Altdorf with thousands of knights. The Lady speaks to him several times on the way, reminding him he won't come back alive, despite being her favourite.
- Vlad von Carstein becomes the Empire's ally of convenience. After convincing Kurt Helborg, Vlad defends Altdorf against the warriors of Chaos. In an unmatched display of stupidity, he drinks one of Glott's blood and almost dies as a result, so he flees. Before that, he kills Festus with a wooden stake.
- Ludwig Schwarzhelm and Luthor Huss seem to die, at least they're missing in action, like Valten.
- Kurt Helborg dies, the book doesn't elaborate much on the matter.
- The three lost cities are Altdorf, Carroburg and Marienburg. The heroes are Karl Franz, Louen Leoncoeur and ¿Vlad? [it's further discussed in the comments section that since Vlad is not confirmed as dead, the third one is probably meant to be Kurt Helborg
