Hi guys
I think it's time to respond, really!
First of all, thanks to everybody who give feedback regardless of where they are; it's always appreciated, especially the criticisms as we can only improve our service through working to put any problems right.
Now then: I would imagine that most people here would be talking about the slow supply of Games Workshop products, who we continually have problems with I'm afraid. This is a thorny issue for many online traders, not just ourselves; and I do not want to seem whiny or place too much blame on GW, because at the end of the day they are doing what they believe is right to keep GW going just as I would do if I were head of GW.
Many of you may not be aware that last year GW placed many onerous conditions on independent traders (the reasons for which I won't go into here, except that they would like everybody to buy from their own website) which we simply have to bite the bullet and overcome. These conditions include the hiking of our trade price, the ending of eBay sales for GW new products and - worst of all - only being able to order from them once per week.
Back in the happy days before May 2009, we could order from Games Workshop whenever we wanted and received our orders within two or three days, thus ensuring our customers had a quick turnaround. Additionally, we had a healthy eBay presence for GW products, ensuring those people who preferred eBay could use it to buy GW. Ending eBay sales slashed a good percentage of our cashflow, which we could only recover by expanding into other products and other company's miniature ranges. We have done so successfully, and are continually looking for good new product to bring to you guys.
Back to GW. After May 2009, we could only order once per week and we are not guaranteed when that order will arrive. We generally always order on Monday, but we do not know when we will be receiving our purchases. This has had a three-fold effect: a) it has ensured our orders are massive, which causes cashflow problems (especially for new releases where we have to hold stock in anticipation of sales), b) we have had to increase our stock levels to ensure we could supply our customers - again, causing cashflow problems as we have to buy more and we are also taxed more on that stock (some of you may not be aware that stock is taxable - it's an asset people, and the taxman wants a piece of it) and worst of all c) everything is now delayed, sometimes massively.
In the case of the Beastmen release, which a lot of people had a problem with, we ordered them the Monday before the release date and didn't receive it until Friday the week after. In our contract with them, GW can take however long they wish to deliver goods if that order is over £5,000.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a complaint; it is explaining what we have to deal with. We love GW products and love to sell them to you guys, but it is mostly GW that has caused the delays. We would like nothing more than to get your products to you within a couple of days, and happily we can still do so thanks to holding around £200,000 worth of GW stock (we'd like to hold more in an ideal world), but new releases suffer particularly badly from these delays and whilst we do try to pre-empt by ordering triple what we need from pre-orders we don't always get enough of the new releases on time.
Additionally, we have experienced problems with our own staff which, as any growing business will tell you, has had an effect on sales. What with moving, expanding the ranges we sell and trying to get the gaming centre up and running, it hasn't been easy. We have thrown people at our distribution team to get things moving and we are currently just about on par with demand, but when you have to drag three people off picking or packing to grab the hundreds of boxes we get from GW and put them away (which all takes time) it doesn't help. It would be much easier if we had smaller deliveries, but hey ho.
I am not telling you all this for any reason other than I feel aggrieved when people say "we're a bit slower than we used to be". There are genuine reasons for that and the main reason, above anything else, is GW's new terms and conditions. Those of you that play other games, such as Hordes and Warmachine or Flames of War, will get your goods more quickly because they support us very well; it's a simple statement of fact that GW used to support independent traders and now want to run us out of business. Thankfully they can't because of EU law, but it doesn't stop them trying.
There are many issues with our website too at the moment, which - to be frank - is creaking under the weight. I am working tirelessly to get these issues sorted and this year should see a new, all-singing website that will ensure there's less delays and more communication.
I'm aware that many people don't care about the problems independent traders have, you simply want your goods cheap and tomorrow, and many may think that the above are simply excuses. However, we are a genuine business run by genuine people who love wargaming and we don't like to let anybody down as far as possible. We are human and we do make mistakes, but we do try to correct those mistakes whenever they happen.
Additionally, please be aware that whichever online store you use, you will experience the problems with GW products as above. We are not alone!
Hopefully the above will help you guys understand why we are a little slower these days. As always, if you are experiencing problems with delays or anything to do with your order, give us a call - we have a dedicated support team.
